Erste Ausgabe. – Poggendorff I, 884. – Promotionsschrift zur Berechnung von Sonnenfinsternissen und deren Anwendung auf die im Jahre 1820 stattfindende ringförmige Sonnenfinsternis. Der in Hamburg geborene Gerling (1788-1864) verfasste diese in seiner Göttinger Zeit. Während seiner Tätigkeit an der dortigen Sternwarte arbeitete er unter anderem mit Carl Friedrich Gauß zusammen. 1817 wurde er als Professor für Mathematik, Physik und Astronomie nach Marburg berufen und blieb dort bis zu seinem Tode. – Gering stockfleckig. // 4to. 2 nn. ll., 48 pp., with 1 folded engraving map. Gerling (1788-1864), who was born in Hamburg, wrote this work during his employment at the observatory in Göttingen, where he worked with Carl Friedrich Gauß, among others. In 1817 he was appointed professor of mathematics, physics and astronomy in Marburg and remained there until his death. – Some minor foxing.
